VFW Post 430 Participates in National Day of Service to Support Homeless Veterans

On May 2, 2025, five dedicated members of VFW Post 430 in Canyon, Texas, proudly participated in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Day of Service—a nationwide initiative highlighting the continued service of U.S. military veterans within their local communities.

The Day of Service is part of the VFW’s #StillServing campaign, launched in 2020 to showcase how veterans remain vital contributors to society long after their military service ends.

This year, Post 430 partnered with Homeless Hero of Amarillo, a nonprofit organization leading the charge on a vital community project: renovating an old motel across from the Thomas E. Creek VA Medical Center in Amarillo. Once complete, this facility will provide shelter and support for approximately 30 homeless veterans from Amarillo and Canyon.

Our Post members rolled up their sleeves and got to work. They began clearing out Room 108—pulling nails from exposed 2x4 studs, removing leftover drywall, and cleaning up the overgrown grass behind the building. This hands-on effort marked the first step in a larger mission to restore dignity and provide stability to those who once wore the uniform.

VFW Post 430 is proud to continue serving—and standing beside—our fellow veterans and our local communities.
